The Charles Bender Performing Arts Center

Humble became known as an oil boomtown in the early 20th century when oil was first produced there. The first oil was produced a couple years after the famous Spindletop discovery in Beaumont, Texas. Railroad linkage was established in 1904, and shortly thereafter the first tank car of oil was shipped out of the Humble oil field. By 1905 the Humble oilfield was the largest producing field in Texas.

Before 1918, students attended a single building, the Humble School, which housed grades 1-11. The first high school graduates in Humble graduated from this school in 1911.The first school building, Humble High School, opened in 1918 on Higgins Avenue. In 1929, it was relocated to a new building, next door, as Charles Bender High School.

Now known as the Charles Bender Performing Arts Center (formerly Charles Bender High School) was renovated in 2014 to serve as a venue in downtown Humble. The building, originally built in 1929, after renovations has become home to monthly concert series that are a fun evening out for the whole family.

The next event will be held on Jan. 27, 2018
